Varun started playing cricket in school, but due to obstruction in studies, he left it in the 12th class. At that time Varun had no contact with any player. He went to a Cricket Academy, where only under-20 players were taken. Varun did not give up and often got his name registered for selection. He was elected in TNPL, where his performance was spectacular. From here Varun continued to accelerate the performance and finally Punjab expressed confidence in him in the IPL.
