New Zealand vs Sri Lanka: New Zealand won a big win by defeating Sri Lanka by 423 runs on Sunday (December 30) on the fifth and final day of the second cricket Test. New Zealand won the last three wickets of Sri Lanka in just 14 balls on the last day, so that the visitors could chase the target of 660 runs to score 236 runs. With this victory, New Zealand took their name from the series 1-0. The first Test was in Wellington.
This is the first time in 88 years of Test history of New Zealand cricket that the team has won four consecutive series. New Zealand had earlier defeated the West Indies, England and Pakistan. Fast bowlers Trent Bolt (3 for 77 runs) and Neil Wagner (4 for 48 runs) completed the formalities of New Zealand’s victory on the final day. Tim Southee also took two for 61 runs.
Captain Dinesh Chandimal (56) and Kusal Mendis (67) shared a 117-run partnership for the third wicket in addition to raising the half-century from Sri Lanka. But apart from both of these, none of the other batsmen of the team could touch the 30-run mark. Angelo Mathews (22), who was injured yesterday, did not come forward to bat.
